Food-grade, export-compliant desiccants for moisture-sensitive cargo.
The GCC imports the majority of its food, and markets such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar enforce strict rules on freshness, packaging and shelf life. Moisture is one of the most common causes of rejected or downgraded food shipments — and one of the easiest to control with the right desiccant.
For food and beverage packaging, the desiccant must be safe for indirect food contact and compliant with export regulations. The most common choices are:
| Product | Best For | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Silica gel sachets (food grade) | Dry foods, supplements, capsules | Non-toxic, odourless, inert |
| Cobalt-free indicating silica gel | Export to EU / GCC | Avoids the cobalt chloride found in blue gel |
| Oxygen absorbers | Freshness, oxidation control | Often paired with a desiccant |
| Humidity indicator cards | Monitoring | Confirms protection through the chain |
Gulf markets increasingly require that desiccant sachets be clearly labelled, cannot be easily opened, and — for products exported to the EU and some GCC buyers — must not use cobalt chloride indicators. Choosing a cobalt-free, food-grade desiccant avoids the most common compliance objections and protects your brand with repeat buyers.
Match the desiccant to the moisture sensitivity of the product and the length of the journey. High-value, moisture-sensitive goods (powders, supplements, nuts) justify food-grade sachets plus a barrier liner; robust dry goods may only need sachets. If you are unsure, send us the product, pack size and destination — we will specify the desiccant and the barrier packaging to match.
